D.C. United downs reigning MLS Cup champs
Pontius scores in 93rd minute to clinch 1-0 win over L.A. Galaxy

Washington, D.C. (March 28, 2015) – D.C. United (2-1-0, 6 points) claimed its first victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy (1-1-2, 5 points) since 2008, defeating the reigning MLS Cup champions on a 93rd-minute goal by Chris Pontius, assisted by Nick DeLeon.

Bill Hamid finished with five saves and his second shutout of the season for D.C. United, which extended its unbeaten streak at RFK Stadium to 13 matches (12-0-1) in all competitions, including nine straight in MLS play.

D.C. United returns to action in its first-ever visit to expansion side Orlando City on Friday, April 3 (UniMás, 7).

Game notes:

*D.C. United’s result against the Galaxy ended a streak of 10 games without a win (five losses, five draws).

*D.C. United is unbeaten three consecutive matches against the Galaxy at RFK Stadium (one win, two draws).

*The victory was the first for United Head Coach Ben Olsen over the Galaxy in seven attempts (1-3-3).

*D.C. United improved its all-time record against the Galaxy to 14-19-9 overall and 9-9-4 at RFK Stadium.

*Ben Olsen’s overall record is now 51-65-35.

*Chris Pontius recorded his first goal of the season, his third career goal against the Galaxy, and the 29th overall goal of his career.

*Pontius had his second straight 90-minute appearance of the season, his first two complete games since October 2013.

*Nick DeLeon recorded his first assist of the season, and the 11th of his career.

*Bobby Boswell made his 57th consecutive regular season start. Boswell has 37 consecutive starts since his return to D.C. United in 2014.

*D.C. United made one change to the starting lineup from the previous game at New York, with Taylor Kemp replacing Chris Korb: Hamid, Kemp, Birnbaum, Boswell, Franklin, Rolfe, Arnaud, Kitchen, DeLeon, Pontius, Arrieta.

*Taylor Kemp made his first start of the 2015 season.

*Bill Hamid recorded his second shutout of the 2015 season.

*Defender Steven Birnbaum suffered a left ankle injury in the second minute and had to leave the game.
