FANTASY PROFILE: Michael Morse, OF, Miami Marlins

LWOS Ranking 72, Captain’s Value: $4.06

In 2014, Michael Morse signed with the San Francisco Giants and got himself a World Series Ring. He did pretty well for himself, hitting .279 with 16 HR and a wRC+ 133.

In the off-season, Morse signed a 2-year contract with the Miami Marlins. With Morse, you have yourself an above-average hitter who will provide decent power totals when he is healthy.

The primary part of the last sentence that you need to concern yourself with is the “when he is healthy” section as Morse has been very injury prone. Even though Morse is 33, 2014 was only his second season where he played more than 130 games.  If Morse can stay healthy for an entire season, he is capable of providing a solid AVG with possible 20-25 HR production. However, avoiding injury is one of his weaknesses and the reason why his ranking is not higher.

Currently, the Fantasy Pros ADP for Morse is at 274.2 which means he’s being picked around the 22nd-23rd round in 12-team leagues. If you are looking for additional power at the very end of your draft, Morse could be someone worth picking up on the off chance that he can still healthy all year.
