Getting to know Philadelphia Flyers Ryan White

Ryan White has had a rocky year that seems to be ending on a high note. As a restricted free agent he was not given a qualifying offer by the Montreal Canadiens so he ended up becoming an unrestricted free agent. It took several weeks but White ended up signing a one year, two-way contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Short while after it was announced he underwent surgery to repair an injury involving his pectoral muscle that he suffered at the gym while weight training. His recovery was expected to keep him out until February, but he had a speedier recovery than expected. He started skating in November and by December was skating with his teammates. He was then sent to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for a three game conditioning stint. After the three games he was recalled by the Flyers and practiced with the team before being put on waivers. Twenty four hours later he was sent back to Lehigh.

He played a couple of games with the Phantoms before getting recalled by the Flyers after Zac Rinaldo received an 8 game suspension for an illegal hit to Kris Letang. With this opportunity he started proving his worthiness, while at the same time playing one game in Montreal against his former team.

To date, White has played sixteen consecutive games, has 2 goals and 4 assists while easily becoming a fan favorite.

So anyways, Ryan White took over the Philadelphia Flyers twitter account to answer fan questions and for the fans to get to know him. Here is some of what he wrote.

The first question to start him off was, “Is a hot dog a sandwich?” and his replay was “No. Hot dog’s a hot dog.”

When asked about his time with the Flyers and if he is a good fit, he wrote, “Yeah I think I fit in well. It’s a place where they (let) me be myself.” To recap, White has been playing mostly on the third line. He has played all around, trying to find the best fit. He has also been playing an average of 10-12 minutes per game, his TOI in Montreal was between 6-8 minutes.

White also stated that Michael Raffle is one of his best friends on the team and one of the funniest guys in the locker room, “Hard not to like him.” “He’s quite the character.” From the Phantoms, White says he misses Steven Delisle the most.

The forward was also asked about Radko Gudas joining the Flyers and White responded with, “Excited I don’t have to play against him anymore. Seriously!”

Ryan White played for the Calgary Hitmen and the Hamilton Bulldogs. Both teams he wore the number 25. With the Montreal Canadiens he wore the number 53 and once with the Flyers he went back to 25. When asked how he got the number he said “That’s what they gave me but I stuck with it.”

Outside hockey he says the Lake in Manitoba is his favorite Vacation spot and he likes country music especially Eric Church and Jason Aldean.

Finally when asked about the dress that has gone viral. He says he sees White and Gold.
