Habs Trade for Brian Flynn

Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin has already made one trade on Trade Deadline and he isn’t done just yet, sending a fifth round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft for Buffal Sabres centre Brian Flynn.

The 26 year old undrafted American has played in 54 games with the Sabres in 2014-15, accumulating 5 goals and 17 points while also managing a 47.6% faceoff success rate. While plus minus is a completely useless statistic, it is worth mentioning that Flynn has the second best +/- with more than 30 games played on the Sabres with a measly -3.

He has played the past three seasons with the Sabres, racking up 41 points in 159 games played. His best performance came in 2012-13 with 11 points in 26 games played.

Brian Flynn carries a cap hit of $638,000 per season and will be an RFA this summer. While he can play all three positions on forwards, and will be a useful addition the Habs bottom six, quite possibly replacing Manny Maholtra for the rest of the 2014-15 year, this has a feel of a, “something bigger to come”. Only time will tell, but knowing Marc Bergevin, he definitely has more up his sleeve.

Keep your eyes posted to the Last Word On Sports Hockey Team as we will be posting full details and analysis of all trades leading up to the 3:00 PM EST NHL Trade Deadline.
