Panthers trade Fleischmann to Ducks for Heatley, Pick

With just over 48 hours to the NHL trade deadline, we have another NHL trade that has gone done. The Florida Panthers have traded Tomas Fleischmann to the Anaheim Ducks for Dany Heatley and a third round pick.

Fleischmann and Heatley are both in the final years of their contracts and will be unrestricted free agents this summer.  Fleischmann carries a $4.5 million cap hit, while Heatley carries a $1 million cap hit.

The 30-year-old Fleischmann is reunited with head coach Bruce Boudreau, under whom he had some of the best seasons of his career with the Washington Capitals.  He has 7 goals and 21 points in 52 games this season.  Fleischmann’s best season came with the Panthers in 2011-12 with 61 points in 82 games.

The 34-year-old Heatley has only played in six games for the Ducks this season, and has not scored a point.  He was waived and sent to the AHL where he has two goals in 25 games. Heatley signed a one-year deal with the Ducks last summer, and things just haven’t really worked out as he attempted to revive his career.

This is the second trade this week for each team, as the Ducks acquired Jiri Sekac from Montreal for Devante Smith-Pelly on Tuesday, and the Panthers picked up Jaromir Jagr on Thursday.
