FANTASY PROFILE: JOSE REYES, SS, TORONTO BLUE JAYS

LWOS Ranking 4, Captains’ Value $13.90

Between 2005-2008 Jose Reyes was a fantasy stud, averaging 13 HR, 113 R, 64 SB and a .287 average. Injuries have become his worst enemy though, playing in only one full healthy season since 2008. Reyes’s bread and butter, his agility and speed, has declined because of these injuries. It also doesn’t help that he is going on 32 years of age and the legs are usually the first element of a player to diminish. The days of 50+ stolen bases are long gone but I do believe he has the ability to steal 25-30, as long as his health keeps him on the field.

Reyes has great plate discipline (career 7.1 BB% and 10.3 K%) that, along with a career 87% contact rate, will help him maintain an above league average AVG and OBP. He still has the ability to reach double digit HR and, with the SB and solid AVG/OBP, Jose Reyes should be able to provide good value at a mid round price. Just keep in mind of the injury flags that now come with drafting Reyes.
