It was announced Tuesday morning that the Montreal Canadiens have traded 22-year old Jiri Sekac to the Anaheim Ducks for 22-year old Devonte Smith-Pelly.

It was announced earlier Tuesday morning that the Montreal Canadiens have traded 22-year old Jiri Sekac to the Anaheim Ducks for 22-year old Devante Smith-Pelly. This isn’t the first trade between these two teams this year, as earlier in 2014 the Canadiens traded left winger Rene Bourque to the Ducks for defenceman Bryan Allen.

Both players have a similar salaries, as Sekac has a $800,000 salary signed for another year, and Smith-Pelly has a $925,000 salary, although his cap hit is $1.35 million.

This deal was relatively unexpected, as both players are expected to have a bright future in the NHL.

Sekac was signed by Montreal as an undrafted free agent on July 1st. He has 9 goals and 16 points in 50 games played this season. He has spent most of his time on the Canadiens second or third line. The Kladno native came played for Lev Praha in the KHL last season.

Devante Smith Pelly has 5 goals and 17 points in 54 games for the Ducks this season. The Scarborough, Ontario native was the Ducks second round pick, 42nd overall in the 2010 NHL Entry draft. He spent most of last season with the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL where he had 27 goals and 43 points in 55 games. In the NHL, he has 40 points in 129 career games.  He was part of Canada’s 2012 World Junior team and won a bronze medal in the process.
