Turkington and Plato Join Forces at BMR

Reigning champion Colin Turkington and Jason Plato will join forces at Team BMR in the Volkswagens CC’s.

With just forty-five days until the British Touring Car Championship fires into action at Brands Hatch, last night the final two major announcements that fans were waiting for were released but not many people expected that the top two in last season’s championship had the same thing to announce.

Turkington and Plato Join Forces at BMR

Reigning champion Colin Turkington and Jason Plato will join forces at Team BMR in the Volkswagens CC’s. The two champions complete a formidable line up at the team alongside team boss Warren Scott and two time race winner last season Aron Smith. It will only be the team’s second year in the championship so it will be very impressive if they manage to complete consistently with the likes of Honda, MG and BMW but with that driver line up they have a real chance.

It is a front wheel drive car so the learning curb will be steep for Colin Turkington in particular who has driven rear wheel drive for most his career however not only will he have the experience of his three teammates but he brings with him Kevin Berry who has been his race engineer for the past two seasons. Likewise Jason Plato brings Carl Faux from MG in an attempt to haul the Volkswagen up the grid and compete for race wins and championships.

The season is sure to have fireworks even last season Aron Smith and former team mate Alan Menu locked heads at Snetterton when they came together. Jason Plato and Colin Turkington have been locking heads for the last five years and the fact that they’re team mates may mean they have to reign that back a little bit but in driving style and in personality they are complete opposite and their main competition is each other especially if they’re not winning as much as they want. Aron Smith will be up to speed with the two of them and ready to beat them, he’s the one that’s a race winner in the car and will have the upper hand as the season begins.
