Argonauts Bring Home DE Ricky Foley in Deal With Riders

PRESS RELEASE:

Toronto – The Toronto Argonauts have brought home national DE Ricky Foley, who was named Most Valuable Canadian of the 100th Grey Cup as a member of the Double Blue, in a trade with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In exchange, the Argos have sent national LB Shea Emry to Saskatchewan.

Commented Argonauts General Manager, Jim Barker, “Ricky Foley has always been an athletic and hardworking football player who continues to produce on the field. He puts tremendous pressure on opposing quarterbacks which is a skill we believe will complement our defence very well. Ricky has won championships on every team for which he has played in this League, and many of our fans will remember him to be a key contributor to our 100th Grey Cup win. Toronto is his hometown and we are happy to have him back in Double Blue.”

A product of York University, Foley grew up in Courtice, Ontario which is about an hour drive east of Toronto. He has won Grey Cup championships with the B.C. Lions (2006), Toronto Argonauts (2012) and Saskatchewan Roughriders (2013). He was voted the Most Valuable Canadian of the 100th Grey Cup game at Rogers Centre, and in 2009 he was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian. Foley was originally drafted by the Lions with the fourth overall pick in the 2006 CFL Draft. A nine-year CFL veteran, his career regular season numbers include 50 QB Sacks, 296 defensive tackles, 57 special teams tackles, 12 fumble recoveries and 1 interception.

Barker Continued, “We would like to thank Shea Emry for his time and professionalism as a member of the Argonauts, and we wish him the very best in the future.”

Emry joined the Argonauts as a free agent in February 2014 and played in all 18 regular season games. He recorded 72 defensive tackles and 1 QB sack as a member of the Club.
