BTCC News Round Up: January

As expected around the time of the Autosport show there have been many BTCC announcements, which are sure to have a major impact on the upcoming season. So here is your January BTCC news round up:

The first piece of news is that 2013 champion Andrew Jordan will no longer be racing at Eurotech and instead will be taking his Pirtek sponsorship to the recently vacated MG/888 team in place of Jason Plato. His teammate has not yet been announced but it is thought they want a younger driver alongside Jordan to learn from his experience.

The next big piece of news is that Andy Priaulx will join WSR as their second driver alongside Sam Tordoff. He will return to the championship after winning a race in 2002. He will also take part in other championships in Europe and the USA however he is only likely to miss the Rockingham round which could have an impact on the championship.

The news of course means that reigning champion Colin Turkington is still unsure whether he will be on the grid at all, let alone with his team WSR that won him both of his titles, however Sam Tordoff did tweet to say ‘Just need Colin Turkington back now for the dream team! #BTCC’. This could mean that Turkington is indeed still in talks to possibly stay with the team.

The news has also prompted Rob Collard to say his future is still uncertain with the WSR team after announcing two drivers. Also team mate to Collard and Turkington last season, Nick Foster has announced his retirement from the sport, and we wish him all the best in whatever challenge he decides to take part in next.

Jason Plato has taken to twitter to say ‘All in good time’ therefore it could be a while before the veteran tells the public what his plans for the racing season is.

Finally Warren Scott, team owner of BMR has said he will be returning to race in one of the cars, which Aron Smith already confirmed it leaves two seats remaining and both Plato and Turkington have been the subject of rumours about the drives.
