BTCC News Round Up: December 2014

Almost two months after Colin Turkington was crowned champion at Brands Hatch the BTCC winter off-season in is full swing however there hasn’t been that much news yet in terms of the big drivers including Sam Tordoff, Jason Plato and The eBay BMW team. However there has been news about smaller teams and new drivers.

First up Stirling Motorsport Management announced they will race a new team in support for Help for Heroes. They will race across four British series with talented young British drivers including Josh Cook in the BTCC car. It will be run and raced completely by veterans whilst raising money for the charity. With more and more teams announcing interest and a maximum of about 34 cars on the grid it is thought this team will take the place of a current team but it is not known who as of yet.

The second piece of news is that Andy Wilmot will take the place of Ollie Jackson at Welch Motorsport alongside Dan Welch. Previously Wilmot raced in the BTCC field in 2013 and scored three top 20 results.

Jeff Smith will return to Eurotech racing. He, like Wilmot raced in the series in 2013 alongside champion Andrew Jordan. He achieved a podium and a few top six finishes in the series. So after becoming a multiple share-holder into the company he will re-join the team. It is thought even though not officially announced that he will be racing with the 2013 champion Andrew Jordan and again and the rumour floating around that they may want to run a third car.

Simon Belcher will return to the series once again hoping for a more successful season with his Handy Motorsport team. Alex Martin will also race a Ford Focus with Dextra Racing as part of the Motorbase Team.

More news is expected to be announced as we get close to the upcoming Autosport Show in January.
