Team Canada Announces World Junior Selection Camp Roster

Team Canada has announced a 30-man selection camp roster for the 2015 World Juniors.  From this 30-man roster (and any potential adds to it who are currently in the NHL), the 22-man team that will take to the ice in the tournament to be held in Montreal and Toronto starting December 26th, 2014 will be selected.

The six NHLers who are age eligible fall include, Nathan MacKinnon, Aaron Ekblad, Jonathan Drouin, Anthony Duclair, Curtis Lazar and Bo Horvat.  We can assume with near certainty that MacKinnon and Ekblad will not be released, while the other four seem to range from maybes, to doubtful.

Team Canada Announces World Junior Selection Camp Roster

The names invited to camp are:

Goalies

Eric Comrie
Zach Fucale

Defence

Chris Bigras
Madison Bowey
Haydn Fleury
Dillon Heatherington
Joe Hicketts
Samuel Morin
Josh Morrissey
Darnell Nurse
Travis Sanheim
Shea Theodore

Forwards:

Nick Baptiste
Rourke Chartier
Lawson Crouse
Michael Dal Colle
Jason Dickinson
Max Domi
Remi Elie
Robby Fabbri
Frederik Gauthier
Morgan Klimchuk
Connor McDavid
Nick Paul
Nic Petan
Brayden Point
Sam Reinhart
Nick Ritchie
Jake Virtanen

Some things to note on the list are the fact that only two goalies were selected.  This means that Comrie and Fucale are locks for the team, and the biggest snub is Memorial Cup Champion and Edmonton Oil Kings goalie Tristan Jarry.

On Defence, Madison Bowey is the only right handed shot.  This will make things interesting in camp, as determining which defenders play the best on their off-side will be key for the coaching staff.

Up front, the biggest controversial omission is Joshua Ho-Sang, who was also omitted from the U18 team last spring, and had some harsh words for Hockey Canada when he was not invited to the summer development camp.  Rourke Chartier who did not get an invite to the summer camp, and did not play for the WHL in the Canada-Russia Subway Super Series is the biggest surprise name included on the team.  He is leading the WHL in goals and points.
