Wild And Scandella, Agree To Extension

The Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman Marco Scandella to a 5-year, $20 million contract extension. Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher had this to say about the 24 year-old blue liner,“Marco has shown tremendous improvement in his career, and is one of the best young, two-way defensemen in the NHL,” also adding,“He is a hard-working, energetic player, who is just scratching the surface of his potential in the NHL.”

The 6’-1”, 190 pound Montreal, Quebec native was selected in the second round (55th overall) of the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Wild, and is known as a strong-skating, stay-at-home defenseman that also has tremendous physical attributes. He has great decision-making skills, while playing a simple style in his defensive end. In 185 career NHL games for the Wild, he has posted 12 goals, and 28 assists. With the Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Houston Aeros (now called the Iowa Wild), he appeared in 87 games, and contributed with seven goals, and 34 assists.
