Reports: Aggies vs Longhorns will Not be part of Bowl Schedule

Ever since Texas A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC, their long standing rivalry with the Texas Longhorns has been put on hold. But the performances of both teams this year have them around seven or eight wins this season so it’s possible they could face each other in a bowl game.

Reports: Aggies vs Longhorns will Not be part of Bowl Schedule

But reports from Chip Brown of the Horns Digest <http://texas.scout.com/story/1482131-kod-a-m-ducking-texas-tcu-tech-traitor?s=110> have said that Texas A&M and the SEC will try to stop the match-up being chosen. “Two sources close to the situation told HornsDigest.com SEC officials have indicated to bowls with SEC and Big 12 tie-ins that the SEC won’t support a Texas vs Texas A&M postseason match-up. In short, A&M has too much to lose from a potential loss.”

Initially it was the Texas Longhorns who didn’t want to continue the rivalry when the Aggies bolted for the SEC but now it appears to be reversed as Texas A&M have enjoyed a successful transition into the SEC, whilst the Texas Longhorns have had an immensely disappointing few years. Many fans would like this rivalry to be renewed on a yearly basis as part of their out of conference schedules but there is clearly no plans for this at the moment. Now it seems a bowl match-up is also out of the question between the two teams.

Fellow LWOS writer John Bava had Texas A&M facing Texas in the AdvoCare Texas Bowl in his bowl projections this week whilst Yesh Ginsburg had Texas facing South Carolina whilst Texas A&M would go to the TaxSlayer Bowl to face Iowa from the Big Ten. It’s always interesting to see how the Bowl selections pan out but I think most fans of Texas A&M and Texas will be disappointed that they won’t get to face each other this season.
