TNA Impact Wrestling to move to Destination America

TNA Impact Wrestling looks to have found a new destination in America for Impact Wrestling.

The struggling wrestling company has announced a deal with Destination America, a channel owned by Discovery Communications, to broadcast Impact Wrestling in the U.S.A. No word yet on how it’ll be shown in countries that do not carry Destination America.

Destination America, formerly Planet Green and Discovery Home, can be accessed through cable and satellite for approximately 59 million homes, a drop from SpikeTV’s 98 million homes. The channel includes programming such as Alien Mysteries, Flip That House, Hillbilly Blood and several Disney properties like Disneyland Resort: Behind the Scenes.

There was originally speculation that it was down to WGN and SpikeTV. Many in TNA thought the issues with SpikeTV were just to drag down the cost of programming for SpikeTV. There were reports that TNA wasn’t keeping any of the talent in the loop, which was enough to anger former TNA World heavyweight champion and Hall of Famer Bully Ray:

TNA President Dixie Carter re-tweeted a fan last night to tell them that a new TV deal would be announced “soon”.

Dave Meltzer was reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio last week that Destination America was being finalized as the new home for Impact Wrestling.

TNA Wrestling has been in a state of limbo ever since it was made clear that Spike TV would not be keeping them around. The loss of television was looked to finally be the one that that could kill off the controversial wrestling company, after years of losing money, Vince Russo and other poor business decisions. With upcoming competition from former owner Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling, who just recently announced that Jim Ross would be doing play by play for their sponsored New Japan Pro Wrestling pay per view in January, it was clear that TNA had to do something soon to keep faithful fans in the loop.
