Dana Holgorsen goes Ultra-Conservative; costs Mountaineers

After a forgettable 2013, West Virginia is a threat to any opponent this season and Dana Holgorsen should be given credit. The Mountaineers season was a decision away from taking another major leap with an upset of #7 TCU when Holgorsen’s vest tightened. WVU held a 30-28 lead with the ball at its own 43 and 3:46 on the clock. Instead of calling its best plays to move the chains, Holgorsen thought three unimaginative runs would kill enough clock to send the Horned Frogs home with a loss. Instead, TCU had plenty of time to drive 56 yards for the game-winner. And not only did the Mountaineers willingly give the ball back to one of the best offenses in the country, Holgorsen went home with all three timeouts instead of stopping the clock and forcing TCU to kick with time left and leaving West Virginia with a chance to salvage a comeback of its own. MarkRogersTV explores the Mountaineers play-calling down the stretch as TCU took advantage for a 31-30 victory at the gun.
