Williams United States Grand Prix Preview: Can Bottas Repeat Heroics?

Valtteri Bottas had one of the stand-out performances of last season here at Austin in 2013. He managed to qualify his Williams in the top 10 and he kept it there in the race, pulling off some superb overtakes in the process. This was in a Williams which barely troubled the top 10 throughout most of the season. Whilst Bottas has been in the top 10 at virtually every weekend since then, he will be looking to deliver more heroics this weekend as he hopes to trouble the Mighty Mercedes.

Williams United States Grand Prix Preview

No. 19 Felipe Massa (BRA) – 9th

Form: 13/3/5/7/11

2013 (Driving for Ferrari): Grid: P13 (qualified P15), Race: P12

Another race which resulted in zero points for Felipe Massa occurred at the Russian Grand Prix. His podium at the Italian Grand Prix seems like an age ago now but he has been picking up some points towards Williams’ total and he has significantly helped in bringing the team ahead of Ferrari in the championship. His target remains to beat Ferrari and if he can manage to beat both Ferraris in the last three races of the season then that will provide a lot of personal satisfaction for the former Scuderia driver.

No. 77 Valtteri Bottas (FIN) – 4th

Form: 3/4/11/6/3

2013: Grid: P9, Race: P8

Despite looking good on Saturday at Sochi, Bottas was unable to even have a look at finishing ahead of the Mercedes on race day. As Mercedes has clinched the World Constructors’ Championship, and it is all but confirmed that one of their drivers will win the World Drivers’ Championship, it is likely that they may slow development on their car. This is the time for the likes of Bottas who has a quick car to pounce and possibly snatch a race victory.
