Fantasy Owners, Don't "Sell High" on DeMarco Murray

I worry that if I don’t give DeMarco Murray a highlight here, I might miss my chance for the season. This guy has been phenomenal! From a consistency standpoint Murray has been everything you could ever want in a fantasy running back. Not only that, but he’s done it against defenses that were tough enough to stop other quality backs. His offensive line has been the heavy artillery leading the way for Dallas’s outstanding ground attack, but his gigantic workload is every bit as responsible. Demarco is on pace for scary stat lines. This seems great but is an obvious two-sided coin due to Murray’s extensive injury history.

I’ve read roughly 30 things telling me to sell Demarco Murray for a high price due to his injury history. Murray destroyed people down the stretch, when healthy last year, to the point where he should have had absolute first round evaluation. The glaring issue is Demarco Murray has never played an entire season as a professional runner. He has had health problems since he broke onto the scene a few years ago. That is why he fell in this year’s drafts. Since then he has made guys like me feel like we stole him in the second and third rounds of drafts. Yet, his familiarity with the Cowboys medical staff has many fantasy owners running scared.

“Make the bold move to win it all and sell high on DeMarco Murray” is not a direct quote, but more of a generalization of many really good articles I’ve read. I have an entirely different mindset.

Selling high on DeMarco Murray is a “playing scared” tactic by my standards. It is actually the weaker play when it comes to winning a championship. The risks of him pulling a hamstring, getting a concussion, or something worse, are higher than I’d like for my starting running back. If you can feel okay with the fact that you might have let a top 10 fantasy season EVER walk out of your lineup and into another’s, then by all means let him take that first step towards the door. For me, it’s a weak move unless you are desperate for more players. The locked in huge points that he is bringing weekly are exactly the numbers that lead to fantasy championships.

Trading high on DeMarco Murray might be the safe play. It could be the smart play. It could bring you tears of fantasy joy IF DeMarco Murray get’s hurt. Otherwise, you’re putting the best fantasy player in the league in another guy’s line up. The BEST fantasy player in the league! It’s not often as clear cut who owns that honor from one week to the next, but this year it isn’t a curiosity. It is DeMarco Murray. I have him. I’m not trading him. I will be telling my fantasy friends, all off season, where they could not go….. Where DeMarco will go….. To a fantasy championship.
