Cats and Tigers – Auburn-Kansas State Preview

Auburn ventures outside of SEC country for one of the few times in memory for an intriguing Big 12 matchup with #20 Kansas State. Brittnee Taylor Newman of LastWordonSports.com and Football.com joins MarkRogersTV to size up Auburn’s vaunted offense with Nick Marshall at the controls.

Despite the loss of Tre Mason and Greg Robinson to the NFL, Gus Malzahn’s multi-layered triple option rushing attack is still making defenses look silly. The Tigers rushed for 660 yards combined against Arkansas and San Jose State. The offseason fine tuning, therefore, focused on the passing game and the development of Nick Marshall. After just 25 pass attempts and 14 completions, the reviews are still preliminary. Big play wide receiver Sammie Coates looks to make an impact for the first time in 2014. The imposing target caught just one pass in Week 1 and was out injuried vs San Jose State after catching 42 balls and 9 TD’s last season. Coates is expected back in full health at K-State.

The Wildcats pose their own dual threat QB in Jake Waters who we last witnessed leading an 80 yard drive to avoid embarrassment at Iowa State 32-28. Waters tore through the Cyclones for 238 yards passing and 138 rushing. Big 12 standout Tyler Lockett (7 Receptions, 145 Yards, TD) most assuredly needs to get involved for the Wildcats to stand a chance against the Tigers.
