Fantasy Running Back Rankings 55-51

#55 Roy Helu Jr.

Year Age Team G R-Att Yards TD Avg Rec Yards Avg TD Tar Fum Fum lost
2011 22 Was 15 151 640 2 4.2 49 379 7.7 1 59 2 2
2012 23 Was 3 2 2 0 1 7 45 6.4 0 7 0 0
2013 24 Was 16 62 274 4 4.4 31 251 8.1 0 42 2 0

Roy Helu has never done anyone wrong. Every time he gets called on, he delivers. The problem lies in the frequency in which he is called upon. Helu is a talented back who can dive through the goal line and catch out of the backfield. New HC Jay Gruden implements a heavy passing game in his offenses. Even though he isn’t calling the shots directly, he’ll have input as to how the ball travels across the field. Insert Helu. It’ll be difficult to wrest any touches away from Alfred Morris, but if Gruden instills the pass game you’ll see Helu all over the field this year.

#54 Carlos Hyde – R

After showing some finesse in his first NFL showing, Hyde has boomed in the fantasy community. Everyone is still betting on an injury to the ever-constant Frank Gore, but even in this preseason there has been no decline in his game. Arguably the best back to come out of the draft, Hyde has a chance to showcase the vision and power that he possessed for the Buckeyes, We’ll have to play our least favorite game in fantasy; the waiting game. One day Gore will show signs of being mortal and the 49ers will have no choice but to install the hungry Hyde.

#53 Stepfan Taylor

Year Age Team G R-Att Yards TD Avg Rec Yards Avg TD Tar Fum Fum lost
2013 22 Ari 16 36 115 0 3.2 8 71 8.9 0 9 0 0

Stanford’s all-time leading rusher was sparsely used in 2013 as a rookie with the Cardinals. Taylor scored 11 fantasy points last season, total. This year he is poised to be the 1st RB off of the bench for Arizona, so he has value, at least as a handcuff. Greatest strength: pass protection. Biggest weakness: very little NFL experience thus far; he might as well be a rookie. Did I mention that he’s good at pass pro, though?

#52 LeGarrette Blount

Year Age Team G R-Att Yards TD Avg Rec Yards Avg TD Tar Fum Fum lost
2011 24 TB 14 184 781 5 4.2 15 148 9.9 0 25 5 3
2012 25 TB 13 41 151 2 3.7 1 2 2 0 2 0 0
2013 26 NE 16 153 772 7 5 2 38 19 0 5 3 2

Blunt (no way to get through this without a cheap joke) has caused the Steelers to be a bit nerves about their RBs. Blount, the safety net for Bell, was caught with Bell in a car that had marijuana in it.  Now we know how they keep the weight on.  This may lead to each of them missing some time, however it may not be this year.  So no need to worry right now, but keep eye out for any reports that may change this.  Blount has shown that he can be serviceable as a 20 carry back.  The only issue is opportunity, which he does not have right now. As always in the NFL, injuries are only a moment away.

#51 Jeremy Hill – R

Jeremy Hill is a solid option as an RB4 who may not be starter-worthy, but definitely has value and deserves to be owned in all leagues. The major drawback with Hill is his position as RB3 on the depth chart. Unless Giovani Bernard gets injured, his potential is limited. But he should still get some touches, having accumulated almost a third of the Bengals running attempts over the first two preseason games. He has also shown he has the ability to get the most out of the chances he gets, after averaging 5.2 YPC in preseason so far. What makes him really interesting is his possible role as the goal-line back, something which does not suit Bernard. If he is given this gig, a steady stream of TDs from RB coach-turned-OC Hue Jackson means he could comfortably out-produce his ADP of 134 (48th amongst RBs).
