Sonny Dykes Pleased With Cal Bears Scrimmage

The California Bears kicked off the scrimmage with plenty of backups and rotations coming in and out. They ran 40 live plays, and according to SFGate.com, here is what Sonny Dykes had to say about the “game.”

“It was a good day,” Dykes said, “We’re a little tired like everybody. A little beat up, a little sore, I thought they came out, worked pretty hard, got through it. Now we’ll start backing off a little bit.”

The season is fast approaching, with a game scheduled at Northwestern on August 30th. With the offensive line being the most questionable part of the team, Dykes subbed in pretty much all of his reserve Offensive Lineman. He also commented on the healthier pre-season the Bears had than the horrendous injury filled August that they suffered through last season.

“We’ve gotten through remarkably healthy. I think we’re tougher, I think we’re bigger, I think we’re stronger, I think we’re more physical, I think we’ve got a better mindset.”

Sure, you can argue that this is what every coach says heading into a season, but what Dykes is saying is true in this case.

Tre Watson, the true freshman running back, will contribute to the hopeful running game. The defensive side HAD to have gotten better, being that they’ve gone against the potential-filled sophomore quarterback Jared Goff all off-season. And not to mention Khalfani Muhammad who averaged over 5 yards per carry will be looking tear it up again this year.

The game against the Northwestern Wildcats will be tough, but a good scrimmage like this is what leads to being prepared to play for the victory.
