CFL Predictions – Week 9

Once again, the LWOS CFL fires up the ol’ predict-o-matic to pick the outcomes of this week’s games. Oddly, no one is predicting any 10-8 score lines this week. You’d think we’d know better, this season.

Montreal Alouettes at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Nick’s thoughtsBoth teams are currently heading opposite ways, Winnipeg slowly falling while Montreal slowly getting better, somewhat. If Alex Brink gets his second start of the season, it will be at his former home stadium at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg. Either the Alouettes finally break through or the Blue Bombers end their losing streak. Both teams have something to prove but the Bombers will take advantage of home territory for the win.

Matthew Bin: Montreal 17 – Winnipeg 19

Nicholas Di Giovanni: Montreal 17 – Winnipeg 26

Steve Gifkins: Montreal 20 – Winnipeg 28

Lance Keiser: Montreal 21 – Winnipeg 25

Toronto Argonauts at Edmonton Eskimos

Steve’s thoughts: Toronto comes into Edmonton licking their wounds after being dominated by B.C in the fourth quarter of their 33 to 17 loss at home on Sunday night.  The injury-plagued line up stole the lead early in the fourth quarter only to give it up again on an Emmanuel Arceneaux 53-yard touchdown reception. Meanwhile, the Esks played their worst game of the season in Ottawa on Friday and still came away with the win. In a small way Edmonton’s home field advantage is diminished because they are travelling across country from Ottawa.  But in the end, the Esks and their playmaking defense should prove to be too much for the short handed Argos.

Matthew Bin: Toronto 13 – Edmonton 25

Nicholas Di Giovanni: Toronto 21 – Edmonton 22

Steve Gifkins: Toronto 22 – Edmonton 24

Lance Keiser: Toronto 28 – Edmonton 23

Calgary Stampeders at Ottawa Redblacks

Matt’s thoughts: I’ve been waiting every week for this Calgary team to get its comeuppance; I just don’t expect them to be this good. Surely someone is going to take an unexpected win away from them and tarnish their league-leading record, aren’t they? Well, probably not this week. Ottawa shows signs of life – more than, say, Montreal – but they’re outgunned everywhere on the field by the Bo Levi Michell-led squad. It looks like a relatively easy win for Calgary as they prepare for their Labour Day contest.

Matthew Bin: Calgary 35 – Ottawa 13

Nicholas Di Giovanni: Calgary 31 – Ottawa 10

Steve Gifkins: Calgary 36 – Ottawa 14

Lance Keiser: Calgary 31 – Ottawa 24

Saskatchewan Roughriders at B.C. Lions

One thing will end in this west coast game: a winning streak. The Riders are coming into B.C. on a 4-game winning streak, although their offence has still yet to find that extra gear, scoring only one TD in their last two games. B.C., on the other hand, is firing on all cylinders, and looking like a giant of a team to handle on offence. So who walks away with the W? After watching John Chick and the rest of the Saskatchewan defensive line crush their opposing QB for the past two weeks, expect that trend to continue against the Leos, no matter who they start behind center.

Matthew Bin: Saskatchewan 22 – B.C. 20

Nicholas Di Giovanni: Saskatchewan 27 – B.C. 25

Steve Gifkins: Saskatchewan 17 – B.C. 27

Lance Keiser: Saskatchewan 26 – B.C. 23

Week 8 Notes

Surprisingly, even though their picks were all over the map, the LWOS CFL crew ended up with almost the same scores, with everyone ending the week on a 3-2 score except Steve, who ended up with only one right out of five.

Even more surprising was absentee commenter Salty1264, who was almost perfect with four out of five picks correct. He is, however, still dead wrong about me not being funny.

Remember to add your picks in the comments. The LWOS CFL writers can’t possibly predict the scores better than you, can they?
