Oklahoma Suspends Running Back Joe Mixon

Oklahoma has suspended their top-rated signee from the 2014 recruiting class, Freedom High’s Joe Mixon. The running back was involved in an altercation last week in Norman where a female Oklahoma student alleged that Mixon punched her and broke four bones in her face.

A school spokesperson said in a statement Wednesday, “Joe Mixon is not reporting for team activities at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation.” Mixon met with police investigators on Monday, but he has yet to be charged with anything and his lawyer maintains that Mixon has not done anything wrong. Mixon will not practice with the team while the investigation takes place.

The Oakley, California native was considered the eighth-best running back in the 2014 class and was ranked 53rd on the ESPN 300 list. Mixon was clocked with a 4.53 40-yard dash and has the perfect build at 6’1″, 209 pounds. In three years as a varsity starter at Freedom High School, Mixon accumulated 4,261 yards on the ground on 598 carries (7.2 yards per rush and 122.3 yards per game), and had 71 total touchdowns.

If the allegations against him are confirmed, it will be a huge loss for the Sooners and a huge opportunity lost for Mixon, but the young running back will have nobody to blame but himself.
