CFL Predictions – Week 4

CFL Predictions – Week 4

The LWOS crew is back with their CFL Picks – Week 4 as the Canadian Football season continues on.  It starts off with an exciting matchup of two 3-0 teams.

Edmonton Eskimos at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Matt: Great matchup, here, with two teams looking like they’re bound for the playoffs already. It’s a tough choice, especially since the teams are again divisional rivals, so there’s lots on the line here. I’m betting Edmonton will bring their A game and will eke out a win.

Nick: The clash of the titans and my early pick for the West Division Final. But we get to see to see a preview in just week 4. This game could easily go either way in a high scoring affair but just like last week the Bombers will come from behind and go 4-0.

Lance: Here we go, the game we are waiting to see: who proves themselves, and who has a slight hiccup. Both teams are unbeaten so far, both are looking for respect. Edmonton seems to have a better defence, but expect a close one here.

Matthew Bin: Edmonton 35 – Winnipeg 30

Nick di Giovanni: Edmonton 38 – Winnipeg 39

Lance Keiser: Edmonton 27 – Winnipeg 25

Toronto Argonauts at Ottawa Redblacks

Matt: Ottawa is on an upswing, Toronto is all over the place; and home openers matter. Ricky Ray also remains the most overrated QB in the CFL. I’ll pick Ottawa for this one.

Nick: The Argos might be without top receivers Jason Barnes and Chad Owens this week .With inconsistency looming they might be consistent this week, but another loss. It’s Ottawa’s time for their first ever win, and it may come this week.

Lance: It’s the moment CFL fans in Ottawa  have waited for… The return of football in the nation’s capital. With the Redblacks fans out in full force it’s going to be loud. Which team shows up is still up for debate: the one that can push a team to the limit or the one that fades under pressure. With Owens’s injury taking him out for 3 weeks, and after losing so badly at home, the cards are stacked against the Argos. Ottawa wins at home.

Matthew Bin: Toronto 17 – Ottawa 27

Nick di Giovanni: Toronto 20 – Ottawa 22

Lance Keiser: Toronto 17 – Ottawa 29

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Calgary Stampeders

Matt: Hamilton remains plagued with injuries, and the ripple effects, mainly because of ratio problems, are felt all over the field. Calgary is looking strong out of the gate. Despite their week off to rest and recover, it’s hard to call this in Hamilton’s favour. Calgary should be able to coast to an easy win.

Nick: Without Zach Collaros and any skill on the offensive line, the Tiger-Cats are not a good team at all. The worst team on my power rankings vs one of the hottest teams in the CFL with a QB in Bo-Levi Mitchell who threw 4 TDs last week. Logic would say Calgary is taking this one.

Lance: Coming off of a bye week, Hamilton looks to get in the win column. But going up against the Bo Levi Mitchell-led Stamps may not be what the doctor ordered for the ailing Cats.

Matthew Bin: Hamilton 10 – Calgary 28

Nick di Giovanni: Hamilton 7 – Calgary 34

Lance Keiser: Hamilton 28 – Calgary 40

Montreal Alouettes at B.C. Lions

Matt: No one expected much from B.C. in week 3, and look where that got Saskatchewan. That said, they are far from a dominant team. Montreal, meanwhile, has a decent defence and two big names in Troy Smith and Chad Johnson, but they aren’t getting big results on the field. Tough battle here, but the home side should take this one.

Nick: The 29-10 dismantling of the Lions by the Alouettes two weeks ago should continue at B.C. Place, where Montreal will look to snap a losing streak at the stadium. With their offensive on high heat,  they should continue it this week with a lot more confidence.

Lance: Both teams are coming off of impressive showings last week, with Montreal taking Winnipeg to the brink, and B.C beating Saskatchewan soundly. The Als historically have a problem traveling to the west coast. This will be a close one, but expect that trend to continue.

Matthew Bin: Montreal 19 – B.C. 23

Nick di Giovanni: Montreal 35 – B.C. 14

Lance Keiser: Montreal 19 – B.C. 24

Week 3 Notes

A lot of unexpected results last weekend. Among the LWOS writers, Matt went two for two on Friday’s game, Nick split for one and one, and Lance was blanked. Commenter salty1264 also split the picks, correct on Winnipeg but too optimistic on Ottawa, and commenter Mark got both right.

Saturday’s games were easy to pick – clearly Toronto and Saskatchewan would take those games against a unproven Calgary and a weak B.C., right? That’s what the LWOS writers thought, and each of them went 0-2 on their Saturday picks. Our commenters fared no better: both salty1264 and Mark were blanked, too.

Remember to add your picks in the comments. The LWOS CFL writers can’t possibly predict the scores better than you, can they?
