5:30pm CDT – YCCL Annual Dunk/3pt Competitions

The dunk and 3 point competitions are the opening statement at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School for the first swing of playoff games in the YMCA Capital City League. The participants are unknown until Friday, but that won’t stop fans from showing up.

Prediction: Jameel McKay (Dunk) Clayton Custer (3 pointer)

6:45pm – Game 1 – #3 Renaissance Granite and Quartz (4-4) vs. #6 Phoenix Renewable Resources (3-5)

Renaissance comes into this game having a very strong season, despite being 4-4. Georges Niang (RGQ-Iowa State Jr.) and Kourtlin Jackson (RGQ-Iowa State So.) have lead the team this year and didn’t have much trouble with the team in the first meeting this year.

Last night, however, Phoenix got past Renaissance Granite and won by five points, which opens up the momentum coming into the playoffs. This will be a close game that will pass on the winner to face ADIO on Sunday.

Prediction: Renaissance Granite

8:00pm – Game 2 – #4 Capital Orthopedics (3-5) vs. #5 Coca Cola Bottling Company (3-5)

Hot shooting Clayton Custer (CO-Iowa State Fr.) will bring his team up against Coca Cola. Capital Ortho is most likely the best three win team that the league will ever see, and with the right bounces they could take it all the way to the Finals.

Coca Cola will have to play hard defense if they want to advance as the team learns to play with each other.

Prediction: Capital Orthopedics

Sunday July 13, 2014

4:30pm – Game 3 – #2 ADIO Chiropractic vs. Winner Game 1

ADIO will likely be up against Renaissance Granite, but whomever they face, they will find their defense under the basket a lot. This isn’t the easiest matchup for a #2 seed, so ADIO will have to be on the offense.

Prediction: ADIO

5:45pm – Game 4 – #1 Walnut Creek YMCA vs. Winner Game 2

Walnut Creek has a low game and can make 3’s any time on the court… It will be considered an upset if they’re beat before the championship game.

Prediction: YMCA

7:15pm – Game 5 – Championship Game

There’s no telling who will be in the Championship Game this season, but it will be a great way to finish the season. Get ready – it’s time for the playoffs
