How will Dany Heatley Fit in with the Anaheim Ducks?

Today one of the NHL’s most intriguing free agents signed a one year 1 million dollar deal with the Anaheim Ducks. A large part of what makes the deal interesting is not what Dany Heatley has done on the ice lately, which isn’t much. Instead, it is the character that has developed online, largely through the help of parody twitter account @DanyAllStar15. Largely seen as one of the funniest twitter accounts on the web, “Not Dany Heatley” depicts Heatley and a drunk, careless person with a comically large ego.

Here is what he had to say today about landing with the Ducks:

While his online personna will serve as a side show, Heatley could actually be a very nice fit in Anaheim, especially at that low price tag. He is certainly well removed from his now famous “50 in 07′” campaign, but still has plenty to offer a team with no shortage of offensive stars. If Heatley can manage to approach half of 50 his time in Anaheim will have been a huge success.

Last year with the Minnesota WIld Heatley put up a disappointing 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points. He added 1 goal and 5 assists in the playoffs. Heatley is a former Rookie of the Year, as well as Gold Medallist for Team Canada.

One can only expect California  surfers will now suffer the same fate as the poor kayakers who have been hit by stray Dany Heatley “bombs” that he clapped off of his dock over the years.
