Top 5 Underrated Quarterbacks for the 2014 NFL Season

Every season, there are some quarterbacks who no one expects to play well; however, they manage to stun the world and record terrific performances. Going into 2014, this trend will continue. There are currently several quarterbacks who are considered by many to be flops; however, they are due to do well in 2014. As we get closer to the beginning of the 2013 season, the expectation that those players will put up very solid numbers grows bigger. Let’s examine who the top 5 underrated quarterbacks are.

QB Brian Hoyer –Cleveland Browns

As of right now, all of the hype in Cleveland is surrounding Johnny “Football” Manziel, and though he was a highly ranked first round choice, he will not be a factor. So far in minicamps, Manziel has looked downright terrible. He has been throwing interceptions nonstop, and he can’t survive in the pocket. Because of this, Brian Hoyer is looking like the starter that the Browns need. Hoyer has worked under Tom Brady and Bill Belichick for several years, and he plays very smart football. He is one of the most talented play callers in the league, and is able to coach his offense on the field. Next season, if Hoyer is able to avoid getting injured again, you can expect him to have a great year. (SIA Profile)

QB Nick Foles –Philadelphia Eagles

Everyone is calling Nick Foles a fluke, but the kid has done a great job so far. Last season, he posted a quarterback rating over 119.0, and he had one of the best touchdown to interception ratios of all time. From his OTAs, his accuracy looks even better than last season and he is already working well with rookies. The Eagles have replaced WR DeSean Jackson with newly drafted rookie WR Jordan Matthews, who should fit in well. Matthews is in better shape than Jackson, and is much harder to cover. Expect them to tear it up next season.

QB Matt Stafford –Detroit Lions

During the offseason, the Lions have given Stafford every weapon he needs. Aside of WR Calvin Johnson, the Lions now have WR Golden Tate from the Super Bowl winning Seattle Seahawks, and they have drafted their new star tight end, Eric Ebron. This group is scary, especially when considering that RB Reggie Bush will be back. This is the most complete team that Stafford has had, and it should go a long way.

QB Sam Bradford –St. Louis Rams

Sam Bradford was on fire last season before he got injured, and if he is able to play a full year, he will excel to greatness. Bradford’s biggest problem over the last few seasons has been protection, but with the new addition of rookie OT Greg Robinson, who will be playing guard in St. Louis, you can expect Bradford to find WR Tayvon Austin much easier. QB Andrew Luck –Indianapolis Colts

Right now, Andrew Luck is projected considered as a quarterback below the first tier. But he is much underrated. Last season, he was on fire; however, he was throwing to average receivers. With the play of TE Dwayne Allen and the return of WR Reggie Wayne, Luck is expected to record great performances in 2014.
