Clayton Custer Impresses YCCL Crowd on Night 2

Iowa State freshman Clayton Custer impressed at Stilwell Jr. High on Wednesday with his stellar defensive performance, while Sherron Dorsey Walker had one of his high scoring nights with 51 points.

Game 1: Capital Orthopedic (2-0) 123, Coca Cola Atlantic Bottling Company (0-2) 116

Clayton Custer (CO-Iowa State Fr.) was hot out of the gate in game one recording 33 points, 9 assists, and 6 steals.  For those who were there, Custer seemed to have many more steals.  Passes from Coca Cola were going into Custer’s hands which then fired into three pointers.

Custer will provide a huge defensive threat for Iowa State in the near season and despite him being a bit smaller in size, he plays bigger than he really is.

Iowa State teammate Abdel Nader (CO-Iowa State RJr.) is coming in hot from Northern Illinois as he tallied 31 points and 9 rebounds.

This all went down while Sherron Dorsey Walker (CCBC-Iowa State RSo.) went big with 51 points and 10 rebounds.  Walker holds the record for the most points in one Capital City League with 67, but this performance wouldn’t be enough as Capital Ortho held on

Game 2: Walnut Creek YMCA (1-1) 127, ADIO Chiropractic (0-2) 104

ADIO was again without Monte Morris and Matt Thomas on Wednesday Night so Kale Abrahamson (ADIO-Drake RJr.) had to take over. The former local high school graduate lead the team with 28 points in the loss.

YMCA was headlined by Jameel McKay (YMCA-Iowa State RJr.) and his multitude of dunks on his way to a 30 point performance.  Cyclone teammate, Hallice Cooke (YMCA-Iowa State So.) helped him with 29 points including a feed for an alley oop.  Both players will be great assets in the future of Iowa State basketball.

Reed Timmer (YMCA-Drake Fr.) had himself another 20+ point game.  He’ll be my pick for Drake’s Newcomer of the year this season.

Game 3: Renaissance Granite and Quartz (2-0) 119, Phoenix RR (1-1) 104

Richard Carter (PRR-Ex Drake, Switzerland Basketball) pulled his team with 36 points as Naz  Long (PRR-Iowa State Jr.) was out with an injured groin.  Long said he will be back in about a week, more or less.

Renaissance Granite and Quartz stayed undefeated by Iowa Staters Georges Niang (RG-Iowa State Jr.) and Kourtlin Jackson. (RG-Iowa State RSo.)  Niang lead the way with 45 points, but Kourtlin Jackson, a walk on at Iowa State, was very impressive with a 24 point performance.

Renaissance will be facing off against Capital Orthopedics in the next wave of games to see which team can stay undefeated.
