Paige's Divas Title Win is a massive boost to British Wrestling

WWE has an impressive fan following in across the pond, but Britain also boasts it’s own wrestling promotions, some of which have caught the eye of their American counterparts.

WWE’s newest Divas champion, Paige was a big part of this her family, the Knights are a gifted group of wrestlers who trained the 21-year-old into one of the greatest wrestlers Britain had to offer until she moved onto European and American wrestling and was finally spotted by WWE.

Hailing from Norwich and being the first ever British female to sign a WWE contract has given the female wrestlers a massive boost to go out and fight for their dreams now they have seen a wrestler they have fought with make it.

Female wrestling in the UK over the past decade has sky-rocketed. Ten years ago you would go to a wrestling event and see one woman as a valet if there was any females around at all. Now from the past few events I have been to they have all involved a women’s match, because it has become so popular.

Many of them list Paige as their role model, showing that regardless of where you are born or what your gender is, if you work hard enough on your craft, you can achieve it.

The fact that the biggest Raw of the year saw her become the first ever British Divas Champion (I’m unsure as to whether Layla is classed as British, whilst she was born here, she never wrestled in a British promotion) as well as the first ever NXT and WWE Divas Champion at the same time could only serve to boost many British women’s expectations.

Her time in NXT showcased the talents she possesses that have allowed her to win the women’s title in almost every promotion she has been a part of. Fans were calling for her to make it up to the main roster for months and following one of the best divas matches in a long time between Paige and Emma on NXT arRIVAL it seems WWE realized it was her time.

Many thought Paige should have been a surprise entrant at Wrestlemania in the Divas Invitational but AJ Lee had the Mania moment she deserved for controlling the women’s division for 295 days, and Paige had her moment the following night.

Social media is already buzzing about AJ Lee v Paige at Extreme Rules and this feud having the potential Trish and Lita had nearly a decade ago.

For a small town girl from Norwich who had a very big dream, you have to feel that is high praise.
