Follow The Tweeters: WWE Raw and Smackdown Reactions (Mar 3-7)

This week’s edition of Follow The Tweeters is in! Were you disappointed with a certain lack of a special someone? Two teases, no break-ups… did you get all excited for nothing? Does a fashion designer need to be fired for turning an animal into a hipster in skinny jeans? Here were your tweets of this past week!

Let us start with Monday Night Raw.

Robby The Brain© ‏@RobbyTheBrain
CM Punk or no CM Punk, the rowdy Chicago crowd will be inevitably vocal tonight, which will cause for some exciting, entertaining TV.

This was the one thing I looked forward to for a few weeks. Whether he would appear or not, the Chicago crowd would provide excellent ambiance, positive AND negative, and make for some entertaining television.

We were not let down. Unfortunately, as the night drew on and CM Punk continued to not appear, the WWE’s patience started to wear down.

And then it got worse…

Javier Morales ‏@JavierIsWWE
Shut up and bring CM Punk !!!!! #Raw

And worse…

Justin Henry ‏@JRHWriting
The crowd is so interested in the Brock/Taker feud that they’re chanting “CM PUNK” en masse. Lovely. #wwe #raw

And worse…

Sid Bridge ‏@SidBridgeComedy
Introducing first, the challengers, Not CMPunk and his partner, Not CMPunk! #RAW

Needless to say, CM Punk never did show up. Dave Meltzer, who has always been pretty reliable, was even lied to by a source in order to promote belief that CM Punk would be there.

The WWE trolled us all and they did a fantastic job at doing so.

With that said, there WAS a show that took place. The good news was, the first hour was jam-packed with intense matches and promos. The bad news, the next two hours were a major drop-off.

Jason Solomon ‏@solomonster
After that horrific writing, Aaron Paul should speed right on out of that arena. #Raw #ChicagoRAW

But not before delivering an exit line that ends with… well that word that rhymes with witch and starts with a B!
-Jim Ross reference

The Wyatt Family ‏@Wyatt_Family
Big pops for both Shield and Wyatts it’s a win win for everybody here #Raw

Not only is it a win-win for all of their bright careers, but it’s also a win-win for us fans.

When you get “This is awesome!” chants before the opening bell, you know you have something special.

Wrestling Memes ‏@Wrestling_Memes
Someone put Rollins on fast forward #raw

It’s spots like the duo-suicide dives and more that will propel Seth Rollins to be a big star in the company someday. All three men can do it all but have mastered one specific thing. For Ambrose, it’s talking. For Reigns, brute force. For Rollins, he’ll get to Jeff Hardy success if the WWE plays their cards right.

Diva Dirt ‏@divadirt
Emma Lock! Emma makes Summer tap again! #Raw

I honestly can’t wait until these two get their own match, without the presence of Santino and Fandango. Give them 10-15 minutes and let them re-live their NXT days.

Brandon Stroud ‏@MrBrandonStroud
Stephanie remembers watching Big John Studd wrestle her friend The Big Show. #RAW

What annoyed me most about Stephanie’s segment was the part where she puts behemoth-like emphasis on Big Show being “MY friend”.

Is that supposed to make the Big Show that much more special? He’s a friend of Stephanie, so he MUST be a great star. Sigh.

John Stevens ‏@JohnStevensLOL
I don’t know about anyone else but I’m LOVING this Christian-Sheamus match. #RAW

I did too, but unfortunately we’ve seen this match a dozen times.

I don’t just mean we’ve seen a Sheamus-Christian match a dozen times, I also mean that we’ve seen their exact plan to construct a match between the two. Same spots, same reversals, same surprise finisher out of no where finish. It’s the same thing with these two every time. I’ve seen a handful of feuds that have had several match-ups spanning over a short time, yet each match had it’s own unique flair. With Sheamus and Christian, it’s like popping a tape into the VCR and watching the same thing from a few months ago.

The Wrestling Mania ‏@WrestlingMANIAx
Why would you bring Rusev up to the main roster when there are much better options in NXT?

Better yet, why would you bring him up to the main roster, only to have him cut promos at times where nobody wants to see him.

It’s the WWE’s way of killing off any potential.

And in the final segment that saw Daniel Bryan on the receiving end of a beatdown from Batista, Randy Orton (to a certain extent), Kane and Triple H, once again… CM Punk did not show up. The WWE had set up everything perfectly to make everyone believe he was coming and the show went off the air with Daniel Bryan laying in the centre of the ring and the Second City Saint nowhere to be seen.

Did the WWE Universe appreciate this? You tell me…

NO CM PUNK!! 🙁 #RAW

Wow. Talk about screwing over fans. Fans wanted Punk, and what did they get? Nothing. @WWE #Raw

NO PUNK ? Are you serious ? #Raw #RawChicago

WE WANT CM PUNK #Raw

WWE Creative Humor ‏@WWECreative_ish
You wanted @CMPunk. Instead you got @TripleH laying out @WWEDanielBryan. So much for your hijack, kids. #RAWTonight

So much for that.

You then tuned into Smackdown on Friday night and had this to say!

Big Show returns #SmackDown

Just before Smackdown starts and never have I been let down so quickly. The problem has never been about Big Show. The problem is how Big Show is booked. He’s constantly placed in the main event scenario, as a supporting role. and never does anything worthwhile anymore besides the occasional heel-to-face or face-to-heel turn to shake things up.

I read one tweet that had me laughing, on the subject of Batista’s fashion. I then read another. And another. I decided at that point that instead of selecting one or two and answering them, I surrender the stage for a brief moment and offer a highlight tweet package of what you guys thought about how Batista was dressed:

Kristy @nolalove25
Someone tell Bootista he dresses like a tool. #SmackDown

Fringezilla @Fringezilla
When Batista was deciding his wardrobe tonight he chose to combine the Terminator with the Village People. #WWE #SmackDown #YESMovement

i  ❤️  wrestling @babyd011_
Can Bootista even breathe in those jeans?!! #SmackDown

Jessica @Jessica_7792
How can you take Batista seriously wearing skinny jeans? #SMACKDOWN

LupinBarnabyJones @ilpalazzo729
How does Batista fit into those pants? #SmackDown

Jebediah Smolley @VoodooBlase2531
@DaveBautista needs to stop buying his jeans at Baby Gap #SmackDown

Dani @DaniAtwell
Asks where all the real men are…while wearing what looks like women’s jeans…hmm. #Bootista #Logicmuch ? #SmackDown

Lucy Stewart @makemesmile68
Is it against the law for a man Batista’s size to wear skinny jeans? #SmackDown

I believe the WWE needs to dress Batista up for the role if they want to portray him as a heel. Remember four years ago, right before Batista left, how he was dressed? Leather clad, no silly hat and definitely no skinny jeans. It was all about the leather and it was intimidating. The WWE needs to go back to that.

Awesome Y2J Hooligan @Celtic_Awesome
Seems like @VivaDelRio @HEELZiggler Part2 . This time without Championchip on stake…Ziggy getting revange for last year? #Smackdown

As someone who enjoys Alberto Del Rio, I was in favor of this match happening. If you can recall, when these two were feuding over the now-defunct World Heavyweight Championship, Del Rio and Ziggler put on some sensational matches full of great spots, story-telling and great endings. Unfortunately for Ziggler, he suffered a concussion during that stretch and the feud between he and Del Rio cooled off. Going back to it now is a grand idea and I would have no problem with these two going at it in a Wrestlemania bout. Then again, I would not be surprised if the WWE combines two stories into one by teaming Ziggler up with Sheamus to take on the team of Del Rio and Christian.
Cortney D. Quinn @90sBabiCortneyD
Hell will break loose between the Shield. How hard Seth tried to keep the group together. #SmackDown

For the longest time, Seth Rollins played peacekeeper among the Shield when Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns were engaged in an “Anything you can do, I can do better” battle. Reigns would out-do Ambrose at every corner and in turn, would unleash Ambrose’s crazy side as he began to lose his grip on his own sanity. Enter Rollins to calm down Ambrose, remind him of their ultimate goal (to run WWE as a unit and claim the ring as theirs) and ultimately get both Reigns and Ambrose on the same page. It was somewhat poetic when Rollins had had enough on Raw and decided he needed to send a message to his two teammates. Was it the right thing to do? Maybe not, but sometimes you have to hurt those close to you to make them realize what they themselves are doing wrong.

Kïtty Kröss @kitty_control
The Usos!!! I’m so glad they are the new Tag Team Champions ?? #SmackDown

I was of the opinion that The Usos should win the Tag Team Championships at Wrestlemania. How much of an achievement would that be to knock off one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history, at Wrestlemania, to become the WWE Tag Team Champions for the first time in their young careers. It would be the boost they needed to jumpstart their dominance among all of the tag teams in the company.

That opinion changed when they won on Raw. With the way they won and how much emotion flowed through not only them, but the Chicago crowd and the WWE Universe, their time is truly now. Heading INTO Wrestlemania as well is a big deal.

Segtonio Cesaro @Segunomics
from potential wwe champion to jobbing on duty to the usos doesnt make sense for ryback #SmackDown

It does, actually. The WWE really screwed the pooch in Ryback’s case. He went from dominating jobbers in squash matches, to defeating The Miz, who at the time was the United States Champion, to making a bee-line for CM Punk. There was no transition period from defeating a bigger name in the mid-card division, a champion no less, and main eventing a PPV against the WWE Champion (CM Punk). The best option would have been to slow-cook Ryback by feuding with the Miz and giving him a nice run with the United States Championship. Instead, the crowd was forced to digest a jobber-gobbler sky-rocketing to the main event. It was tough to swallow.

Enough food/eating references in there for you?

P H @projecthalo
This is easily one of the best Hall of Fame classes to date. Let’s add DDP, or Machoman now. #Smackdown

I agree, on both parts. Paul Bearer, Jake The Snake Roberts, Ultimate Warrior, even Lita. That’s a great class.

All that is missing is Macho Man. How is he not there yet?

tully blanchard @lemont_j
I see fans have chilled with the CM Punk chants unless it’s edited smackdown is taped. #SmackDown

You answered your own question, Tully.

jewell @queenjewell1984
Why is someone that’s “learning” on TV while Paige sits at #NXT ? Is that really Best for Business? #Divas #SmackDown

It most definitely is not. Sadly, the WWE is using it’s Divas division to promote their Total Divas television show.

It’s why Paige is not in the WWE yet, why Emma and Summer Rae are in a ridiculous program surrounding itself around who can dance better instead of re-living their matches in NXT that easily out-do anything we have seen in the WWE in the last five years, and why AJ Lee, AS CHAMPION, can not win a match for her life unless she is forced to defend her Divas Championship.

The Divas division, in a nutshell. Total clusterfudge.

tully blanchard @lemont_j
why doesn’t Ambrose ever defend that title… #SmackDown

Because like the Divas division, the mid-card division is not promoted properly. Ambrose is involved in a story that is all about the stable he is in crumbling from the foundation, while Big E is being used as a prop to further the story of Jack Swagger and Cesaro butting heads and eventually splitting up. We have the two mid-card Championship holders being used in stories that do not involved their Titles, which is why you rarely see them threatened by an opponent to take away their gold.

Too much emphasis on the main event picture, not enough substance to spread out to every other division. It’s been a big problem for a long time now.

Shannon Waldron @ShannonMoxley
I think Deans arms are bigger than my head. #SmackDown

I noticed this too. Dean hit the gym BIG TIME. His arms look twice as big now and his chest looked puffed out.

If he was a few inches taller, he’d be standing next to Roman and look just as big.

Rusheena Boone @RusheenaB
The Shield’s version of hug it out > Kane and Daniel’s bryan’s version. #SmackDown

What a segment that was! I understand some people were let down by the Shield not breaking up, but these three men told a story with a few slaps to the face, a punch and stare-downs. They didn’t even need to pick up a microphone, which is always welcomed anyway.

I am glad the Shield is still a three man unit. Their eventual break-up will have so much more meaning if you throw in a few wrenches and tease their break-up before the actual split.

Ashleigh Barnett @smash_barnett
@WWESheamus needs some new rivalries. He is just wasted on these same guys over and over. #SmackDown

I think he needs to turn heel.

No more smiling. No more talking. Just look angry, kick someone’s head off, beat your chest and yell. That was when Sheamus was at his best.

Mr. CW Punk @CaseyReynolds8
@WWEBrayWyatt reminds me of the Joker. So cryptic and full of words. And he wants to watch the world burn. #Creepy #SmackDown

His character is more like what would happen if a Southerner living in a trailer park combined with the elements of the Joker and became a WWE Superstar. Bray’s promos are so intense and so detailed that some people become afraid of what he is saying. In terms of mic ability, Bray Wyatt has the it factor. For a big man, he moves well in the ring too, which makes him a real presence in the WWE. He and the Shield are just four pieces of a very bright future for the company.
