Bruins Acquire Andrej Meszaros, Rangers grab Diaz, Penguins get Goc, Avs get Berra

The Boston Bruins have acquired defenceman Andrej Meszaros from the Philadelphia Flyers for a third round pick.

The 28-year-old Meszaros carries a $4 million cap hit, but is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. With the loss of Dennis Seidenberg for the season the Bruins have been looking for a veteran defenceman to absorb some of his minutes on the blue line.

Meszaros has five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 38 games with the Flyers this season.

He has also played for the Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning in his nine-year NHL career. Meszaros has scored 54 goals and 165 assists for 219 points in 571 careen NHL games.  He represented Slovakia at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

Meszaros became expendable when the Flyers acquired Andrew MacDonald from the Islanders yesterday.

The New York Rangers have acquired defenceman Raphael Diaz from the Vancouver Canucks for a fifth round pick.  The 28-year-old was acquired by the Canucks just a few weeks before the Olympics with Dale Weise going to Montreal.  Diaz has one goal and 12 assists for 13 points in 52 games this season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired Marcel Goc from the Florida Panthers for a 5th round pick in 2014, and a 3rd round pick in 2015.  The 30-year-old has 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 62 games this season.
