The Shock Heard Around The World

Wichita State has done it; they have shocked the world. After reaching the Final Four last season, the Shockers have made history by being the first team to ever go 31-0 in a regular season of college basketball.

The Shockers ended their regular season with a dominant 68-45 win over the Missouri State Bears. The same players that led the way all season led the team against the Bears. Cleanthony Early had a game high 19 points on 5-7 shooting and Ron Baker contributed another 13 points.

The Shock Heard Around The World

The victory for the second ranked Shockers puts them in prime position for an #1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, on paper at least. Many will still question their strength of schedule in the lack luster Missouri Valley Conference. In the most recent “Bracketology” report by Joe Lunardi on ESPN.com, they were sitting with a #1 seed. This win will all but make that a reality.

The Shockers still have to play in the conference tournament being held from March 6-9 in St. Louis. They are the top seed and it’s hard to imagine they won’t dominate that the way they did the regular season.

The Saint Joseph’s Hawks were the last team to go undefeated, finishing 27-0 in 2003/2004. The Hawks were a mid-major that entered the 2004 NCAA Tournament as a #1 seed even though they failed to win their conference championship tournament. They made it to the Elite Eight.
