Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Back Roberto Soldado

Yes, he hasn’t had the greatest of starts at Tottenham, but he’ll come through. Our Spanish striker definitely has the ability, but his form of late has left a lot to be desired.

We, as fans, should be backing every player that enters the pitch. This includes Roberto Soldado. It’s hard to settle in a new country with new food, new culture, new friends. So I doubt that it’s going to be easy to hit the ground running at a new club.

Back Roberto Soldado

Was it a sitter against Dnipro? Distance wise: Yes. But, and this is the most important part, there was a bobble which totally threw the chance from a tap in, to controlling a difficult ball when you’ve already positioned your body to tap one in. It’s very harsh to criticise Soldado here. You could say that he missed a decent chance, but to call it a sitter that somebody’s grandmother could score is ridiculous.

Soldado has not featured too much in league matches recently. Adebayor has simply been on fire, and has been getting the goals to prove himself worthy of a starting place. I think as soon as Soldado starts scoring in the Premier League, he won’t stop (perhaps not quite literally, but you see my point.) To score a goal is a confidence boost. For Soldado, this is something he needs so very dearly. The longer he goes without scoring, the less likely he might be able to score. It does depend on the mentality of Soldado, who needs to be mentally strong to keep fighting in order to succeed in the games he actually plays in. He is an experienced striker so I am sure he will find the net soon enough.

Is it much about service now? Well, he received some good service against Dnipro. Three balls in the box, two shots on target (one saved, one blocked) and the ‘sitter’ he supposedly missed too. I have to highlight one great move by Soldado against Dnipro. On the 67th minute, Soldado gave a back-heel pass on the half way line to Eriksen, who charged down the wing to cross a ball to Soldado, and with a first time volley, he sent the ball goal bound. It was blocked by a Dnipro defender unfortunately, but it was great play regardless of the end product.

Form is temporary and class is permanent. I put my faith in Soldado to find his purple patch soon and to prove his class. So should you.
