Welcome to “Fuel It Up”!  The racing world is chock full of intriguing stories, but sifting through them to get a good general sense of the landscape can be challenging.  In Fuel It Up, I take the biggest, more interesting storylines and present them to you in a quick, compact 300-words-or-less format.

Fuel it Up!  Stewart responds, Captain America, and Dillon on the Pole

The winner of this week’s paint scheme award goes to the #4 Budweiser Chevrolet driven by Kevin Harvick. Sunday’s race will be the 56th running of the Daytona 500. Richard Petty drew the ire of Tony Stewart this week when Stewart came to the defense of his teammate Danica Patrick.  Petty, when asked if Patrick could win a race replied, “If everybody else stayed home.”  Stewart in defending Patrick said if she takes a checkered flag she should cram it up his butt……………. The #3 car of Austin Dillon has the pole for Sunday’s Daytona 500.  Martin Truex Jr. will share the front row with Dillon.  Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin, winners of their Budweiser Duel races, will be on the second row……………  Richard Petty has the most Daytona 500 victories with seven.  Jeff Gordon leads active drivers with four Daytona 500 victories.  Michael Waltrip, Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth each have two victories.  Chevrolet leads car manufacturers capturing 22 victories followed by Ford with 13.  Defending 500 Champion Jimmie Johnson will attempt to join Richard Petty, Carl Yarborough and Sterling Marlin as consecutive 500 race winners.……………  The weather forecast for Daytona on Sunday calls for a 30% chance of thunderstorms with a high temperature near 80f (27c).  Actor Chris Evans, the star of the movie “Captain America: The Winter Solider” will serve as the Grand Marshall.  Singer songwriter, Aloe Blacc will sing the National Anthem prior to the race……………  The race can be seen at 1:00 on FOX in the US and TSN in Canada.
