Arm: B-

Has a “West Coast” arm. Throws with adequate zip. Fairly tight spiral. Ball comes out very quickly. Has a lower release, which looks to be a 3/4 delivery at times. Throws a lot of short passes and does not stretch the defense with his arm that often.

Accuracy: B-

Has good, not great accuracy to all levels. Throws with excellent trajectory, and seems to know exactly where the ball is going to end up. Excellent touch. Throws a catchable ball. Throws back shoulder fades to the endzone with ease.

Athleticism: C+

Mobile within and outside the pocket. Is not a running threat, but can move the chains and convert downs. Needs to show more awareness in the pocket.

Intangibles: B+

Has very good footwork, even throws on the run with good mechanics. Can throw off back foot when pressured. Works almost exclusively from the gun or the pistol. When under center, usually did not lead to successful play. Goes through progressions, reads coverage. Willing to take chances. Makes throws that will be picked off at the next level. Will go down or take a sack when he could just get rid of the ball. Can improvise and threw shovel passes several times during film study, but needs to phase that out of his arsenal. Extremely productive, with record breaking performances his senior season. Is a 3+ year starter. High football character and shows intelligence. Caught a touchdown on a trick play vs Jacksonville State. Also punted 9 times in his career, barely averaging 30+ yards however.

Red Flags: Level of Competition

Bottom Line: A player I came away impressed at viewing, Garoppolo may not be an ideal, first round type prospect, but he should develop into a very solid starter. May not have the upside to be a Pro-Bowler, but should be good enough to start for 10 years. His showing at the both the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl, proved he can handle the transition to the next level. Is purely a West Coast player, which could limit his draft stock, but has the skill set to thrive in that system.

Comparison: Colt McCoy

Grade: 8.7 (2nd Round)
