101st Grey Cup RiderPride

The 101st Grey Cup saw for the third straight year, the host team winning the Grey Cup. The Saskatchewan Roughriders won their fourth title in front of a rambunctious crowd at Mosaic Stadium. They defeated their opponents, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats by the score of 45-23. Here is how the game went.

The Tiger-Cats started the scoring when former Rider Luca Congi kicked a field goal but from that point on, it was all Saskatchewan the rest of the way through. QB Darian Durant threw for three touchdown passes while RB’s Jock Sanders and Kory Sheets scored a couple of Touchdowns to help Saskatchewan win. Although Hamilton made the game very interesting by mounting a comeback in the second half, it was a little too late as Saskatchewan capitalized on their opportunities that was given too them. Kory Sheets would punch his second touchdown of the game moments after the Tiger-Cats were called for a penalty. The Riders would add another score thanks to a spectacular catch by Weston Dressler that would seal the Riders fourth championship in Grey Cup History.

Their were three players that helped Saskatchewan win the Grey Cup. Sheets played the game of his life as he rushed for a Grey Cup record of 197 rushing yards along with two touchdowns en route to becoming the Grey Cup MVP. In his second game back from injury, Chris Getzlaf made three catches for 78 yards en route to becoming the Most Valuable Canadian, but the person who impressed the most was Durant. He overcame his past Grey Cup demons by going 17 for 24 with 245 yards and three touchdown passes. This is a game he will truly remember.

In their history, this game will forever be cherished as the Riders were able to win CFL’s holy grail on their home field.
