Seattle Looks To Keep Momentum Through Bye Week and Release the “Hawken” Against the Saints

Week 12 brings a break for the Seattle Seahawks, who have been fighting hard for their first place spot in the NFC.  As the team heads into their bye week, players and coaching staff will have a chance to rest and prepare for the next opponent which happens to be the New Orleans Saints at home at Centurylink Field.

If Coach Pete Carroll had his druthers, he would prefer to keep up the momentum the team has right now and have them continue playing. For the past two weeks against Atlanta and the Minnesota, the Hawks have been playing great on both sides of the ball – this 10-1 team has finally found its mojo. (Which should be a worrisome fact for upcoming teams because although some wins were admittedly sloppy, they were wins and again, this team is 10-1.)

During their battle against the Vikings, Seattle did a great job stopping Adrian Peterson’s run game and beating the Vikings 41-20, but this team looks at each week individually so the 15 days this team has between games will give them an opportunity to continue getting healthy.

No word on when cornerback Brandon Browner will return after suffering a groin injury during week 10 against Atlanta, but even with missing talents like Browner and wide receiver Sidney Rice still on injured reserve, Seattle saw the return of right tackle, Breno Giacomini; center, Max Unger; and left tackle  Russell Okung. The Seahawks have been able to maintain without these key players but now that they’ve returned, it will make this strong team even stronger.

A favorite quote from Seahawk quarterback Russell Wilson is: “The separation is in the preparation.” Don’t think for a minute that Wilson and the rest of the team won’t be watching lots of film to prepare themselves for when Drew Brees and the Saints come marching into Seattle for Monday Night Football on December 2.

Brees and the Saints will travel to Atlanta for week 12 and versing the Falcons who will be looking for some redemption after the 48-21 whooping the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave to them. The Saints squeaked by the San Francisco 49ers with a 23-20 win at home so the Seahawks will be watching this matchup against Atlanta closely.

And no doubt the Saints will be studying film to try and prepare for the Seahawks who were able release the Hawken if you will with the debut of Percy Harvin. Percy made his Seahawk debut against his old teammates and although his plays were limited, he made an incredible third down catch which set things up for Marshawn Lynch to punch it in for the score. And although Coach Carroll said Harvin wouldn’t be making any kick returns. Carroll must have had a change of heart though because just in case you missed who that streak was running for a 51-yard kick return, it was Percy.

During this bye week the Hawks will be resting and readying themselves in order to ensure that the Saints go marching out of Seattle with the Seahawks record at 11-1.
