Michael Carter-Williams: Making his Mark for the 76ers

A young rookie by the name of Michael Carter-Williams is rising up in the NBA, and is doing so extraordinarily fast.  Could he be the next NBA Star?

Williams has already accomplished a dunk over LeBron James and a double-double, I’m not sure which is more impressive given the NBA season and his career have barely started. Carter-Williams, the 11th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft out of Syracuse, is still very much an unknown to casual NBA fans; however, he is dominating the floor and if he keeps playing at this rate, he could be a true contender for Rookie of the Year.

Carter-Williams already won the NBA Player of the Week award in just his first week in the league.  The only other rookie to ever accomplish such a feat in his first week Shaquille O’Neal.

Carter-Williams plays for the Philidelphia 76ers, predicted to be the WORST team in the NBA, with Vegas predicting them to win barely over a dozen games this season. After watching MC-W lead Philadelphia to a 3-0 start, we are watching the youngster and his team blow those predictions out of the water right in front of our eyes.  A lot of fans could be thinking that Michael Carter-Williams is just having a really lucky streak to start the year,  but he doesn’t seem to think so:

“It means a lot. I’m proud about it, happy about it, my family is happy about it, … I’m thankful I was player of the week, but I’ve been saying it after each and every game — my focus is on my next game and my teammates. I’m happy about it, it’s a great achievement in my career, but it’s not my focus right now”

Some of the other pros seem to agree. Lebron James recently said of the hot young rookie: I couldn’t think of a better way to start your career in the NBA”. High praise from the best on the planet.

76ers fans have been piling up to watch the rookie play because he could be the best thing to ever happen to that team since Dr. J. We all kept a close eye on ROY Damian Lillard last year, it looks like there’s a new view with Michael Carter-Williams joining the NBA. Williams is averaging 20.7 PPG, 4.7 RPG and 9 APG, an incredible start for the rookie.   Carter-Williams is determined to show this world what he is made of, no matter what it takes to prove it.

What I appreciate most is that he is not only improving himself, but as you can clearly see the team he is playing for has been impacted tremendously in a positive way. It’s not every day that someone comes along like him. He has gone from the rookie that most didn’t know about, into the man that the league is talking about.

Given the low expectations that the 76ers had coming into the year, Carter-Williams is quickly becoming a revelation to the Philadelphia faithful.  Here’s hoping that he can keep it up and continue to bring the fans to their feet and wins to the team.
