Update Broncos Head Coach John Fox Needs Heart Surgery

Update 12:05 am EDT:

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that he has spoken to John Fox, and that John Fox has indicated he needs surgery on a heart valve and will miss 4 to 6 weeks.

This was a pre-existing, and known condition and Fox was in Charlotte to meet with his heart specialist.  Originally Fox planned to have the problem fixed in the offseason, but when he became short of breathe on a Charlotte Golf Course on Saturday, the surgery has now been sped up.

Update Midnight EDT:

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that John Fox needs heart surgery to repair a faulty valve.

Tests continue in a Charlotte area hospital in an attempt to determine exactly how intrusive the surgery will be.   The more intrusive option would sideline Fox for the next two months.  However it is possible that Fox may only need a lesser procedure with a shorter recovery time.  Testing is expected to be completed at some time on Sunday.

Below is our earlier story on Fox:

——————————————————————————————————–

As first broken by Adam Schefter and Chris Mortenson of ESPN and now getting numerous other reports on the internet, Broncos’ head coach John Fox has been taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack.

Fox was on a golf course in the Charlotte area when he started suffering from chest pains.

Early reports suggest that the Broncos believe that Fox will be okay.

Fox is 58-years-old. A career long football coach, Fox was named head coach of the Broncos in 2011.  He was the head coach of the Carolina Panthers for the previous 9 years.

The Broncos are currently on their bye week and had the weekend off.  They were scheduled to resume practice on Monday in preparation for their game in San Diego against the Chargers on November 10th.  The Broncos are currently 7-1 and in second place in the AFC West.

We here at LWOS wish the best to Fox and his family, and hope he makes a full recovery.

UPDATE

The Broncos release the following statement:

“Denver Broncos Head Coach John Fox was taken to a Charlotte-area hospital after feeling light-headed while playing golf on Saturday,” the team said in a statement. “He is being held at the hospital for testing and further observation. Our medical staff is currently in contact with Coach Fox, his family and the doctors who are treating him. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.”

NBC Sports is now reporting that a team spokesman has said it is not a heart attack, but that more tests are being conducted and Fox will remain in doctors care.
