Giants Late-Week Special Edition Report: Beason and Snee

Just a quick go-around considering it was quite a busy last couple of days for Giants GM Jerry Reese.

Hello, Beason: In an effort to salvage any hope of a playoff run, the New York Giants have acquired former three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro linebacker Jon Beason from the Panthers for a conditional late-round draft pick in 2014.

Beason, in a bit of an ironic twist, had lost his job in 2013 to former Giant linebacker, Chase Blackburn, which made Beason expendable. Beason is also a free agent after the season.

The trade will likely be made official later today pending the results of Beason’s physical.

See Ya Later, Snee?: While the defense appears to be getting some help, an already porous offensive line has lost longtime gauard Chris Snee for the remainder of the season with a serious hip problem. And this comes after having off-season surgery for his opposite hip, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that this could be the end for a very good player for the Giants.

It’s slightly good news that David Diehl appears ready for his season debut, as bodies for the o-line are starting to become scarce. The Giants also picked up former Eagles back-up center Dallas Reynolds on Tuesday after Da’Rel Scott was released.
