Warriors To Sign Andre Iguodala

The Golden State Warriors have added a former NBA all-star, as reports suggest that they will be signing Andre Iguodala to a 4-year $48 million deal when free agency opens on July 10th.  Iguodala became a free agent when he opted out of the final year of his deal with the Denver Nuggets.

Iguodala averaged 13 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game in Denver last season.  The 29 year-old swingman has averaged 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in his career.  He spent 8 seasons in Philadelphia before moving to Denver last offseason as part of the four team blockbuster deal that landed Andrew Bynum in Philadelphia, and Dwight Howard in Los Angeles with the Lakers.  Iguodala was an NBA all-star in 2012.

Iguodala also won an Olympic Gold Medal with Team USA last summer in London.

The move gives the Warriors yet another scoring option in their high powered offence which features sharpshooter Steph Curry.  However one must be careful not to overlook the fact that Iguodala is also an excellent defender and will provide the Warriors with real value at the defensive end of the court as well.

In order to make cap room for the move, the Warriors have agreed to a deal that will see Andris Biedrins, Richard Jefferson, and Brandon Rush traded to the Utah Jazz.  This is essentially a salary dump by the Warriors.  In order to entice the Jazz to take on these contracts, the Warriors are also reportedly sending Utah their first round picks in 2014 and 2017 along with multiple second round picks.
