Biogenesis Fallout: Suspensions to Follow

Looks like the steroid story has turned its ugly head toward Major League Baseball – again.

ESPN broke out the story late in the afternoon on June 4th that the MLB is reportedly looking to suspend Ryan Braun, Alex Rodriquez and 20 more players that are connected with the Biogenesis Clinic in Miami Florida. MLB had been investigating in an alleged Miami PED case for a while and had tried very hard to get the Biogenesis Clinic to give up an alleged list of players who were clients with the clinic. In March of this year, Major League Baseball had filed a lawsuit against the Biogenesis.

The founder of the clinic refused to do so for a while, but now Tony Bosch has agreed to cooperate with MLB officials and provide the list of players that the league has been hoping for the past few months. The players rumored to be on this list are players such as Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers, Everth Cabrera (San Diego Padres), Melky Cabrera (Toronto Blue Jays), Bartolo Colon (Oakland A’s), Nelson Cruz (Texas Rangers), Jhonny Peralta (Detroit Tigers), Francisco Cervelli and Alex Rodriguez (both New York Yankees) and more to come in the following weeks ahead. By agreeing to cooperate with the MLB, the lawsuit will be dropped against Bosch.

If and when these suspensions are handed out many of these players could see an 100-game suspension and that includes A-Rod, Braun and Melky Cabrera who had been suspended before for steroid use last season. The MLB has been trying for many years now to clean its name from the steroid era and with this new report coming out, they now have been given the ammo that the league needs to punish players who have been suspected to have used steroids.

A-Rod who has lost a lot of popularity has now taken another hit to his already controversial career and it sure doesn’t help that he is a New York Yankee because the media will be all over him for this one. As for Ryan Braun who lied about taking PEDs in the first place has probably tarnished his career for ever, kind of like the time when Rafael Palmeiro said at a congressional hearing that he did not take steroids and later on in the season he would be tested positive for steroids which of course has tarnished a fantastic career where he hit more than 3000 hits and 500 homeruns. Because of Brauns lie he will be in hot water for a long time and people may not forgive him in the end. Let this be a lesson to everyone out there, don’t lie, because you could get caught one day and the consequences could be awful.

For now we wait for Bosch to meet with MLB officials later on this week to bring his list and then the league will dissect it and hand out what could be many suspensions and hopefully close another book on steroids for good. So let’s sit back and watch as another crazy steroid story continues to unfold during the week.
