Quick Slant: WWE, the "Legend", and 'Ribeyes and Brewskeys'

The NFL is a smorgasbord of awesome storylines.  Some are analytical, others are critical, and some are just down right stupid.  It’s the stupid ones I live for – they make my day.  Welcome to Quick Slant.  I created this column as my way of sharing with you the headlines from around the NFL that I feel are most interesting.  I try to offer my own take on the story in as few words as possible – some of us have a wife, kids and a job and don’t have time to read 5000+ word novels!  So, without further ado, I give you today’s version of Quick Slant:

After news surfaced that Rob Gronkowski was spotted wrestling with a friend while a cast was still on his arm, the Patriots TE hit back that the would “Never do anything to jeopardize his recovery.  But, what he fails to understand is that he was wrestling with a cast on his arm – that can’t be “good“!……Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin believes the “read option” will fizzle eventually and become a thing of the past.  Russell Wilson begs to differ, citing that young mobile quarterbacks like himself and that Colin guy for the 49ers add excitement to the league…….Michael Crabtree attributes his success to having Colin Kaepernick‘s trust.  How about that Colin is a much better quarterback than Alex Smith?  There is that too, eh?……Oh, that reminds me a of a beauty I saw last night – Michael Crabtree is excited to play with the “legend” Anquan Boldin.  Ummm, no, don’t say that again please……Matt Hasselbeck is apparently puzzled and miffed that he was let go by Tennessee.  What is more puzzling is that he was succeeded by Ryan FitzPatrick – you know, that star quarterback of the high-octane Buffalo Bills.  Add to that, Fitz was given a contract half a million or more than Hasselhoffbeck was offered.  Talk about a bitch-slap…….Let’s stay with the Bills a minute.  TE Fred Davis met with them over some Ribeyes and a brewsky (two of Buddy Nix‘s greatest loves). But now the free agent is meeting with New York Jets brass. Really, from the Bills to the Jets. Let that proposition sink in……DE Michael Bennett, newly acquired by the Seahawks (one of several dozen), will reportedly play this year with a torn rotator cuff.  The team acknowledges he will need surgery on it, but want to put it off this year.  Really, we’re better than four months away and you want to hold off? I’m no doctor, but……

That does it for today.  Check back tomorrow and I’ll have sifted through the day’s headlines and give you what you need to know.
