Rodman's Diplomatic Adventure

Ok, I didn’t want to comment on it but I really can’t help resist…

Dennis Rodman, you were a great rebounder and played on numerous championship teams, but please leave International Diplomacy to the experts. Rodman recently returned from his trip to North Korea and has taken to airwaves (most notably on ABC’s “This Week”) calling Kim Jong-un a “Great Guy”…really???  Dennis, how much of Korean history have you actually studied or read?

Forget that, just days after Rodman left North Korea, Kim Jong-Un and clan threatened to tear up the 1953 Armistice Agreement (which ended the Korean War) because of new United Nations sanctions.  Rodman simply isn’t aware of the long history of abuse, manipulation and deception that the ruling Kim family (and their associates) have placed on the North Korean population over the years.   For a guy who has enough time to travel with the Harlem Globetrotters around the world, you would have thought he would have taken the opportunity to read up on Korean History 101 and the evil nature of the regime he was visiting. We could even just look at Kim Jong-Un’s history, you know that person he was going to meet? The supposed great guy?

Lets face it, North Korea is one of the more notorious countries in the world today. Its not everyday that we see a celebrity visiting, and there is a good reason for that. The country isn’t exactly a travel destination for people of the western world, and the notoriety of the dictatorial regime is a major reason for that. I would expect that Rodman could have taken two minutes to learn what he was getting himself involved in before heading to North Korea.

I have no problems with celebrities using their status to promote worthy causes, but come on, calling  Kim Jong-un a “great guy” is akin to calling Wilt Chamberlain a “model for monogamy”.
