Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Christmas Comes Early for Cards, Rays Fans

With the collapse, catastrophic collapse to say the least, of the Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves, Cardinals and Rays fans have an extra beat in their steps.

If you were anywhere near a television, Twitter account, Internet, radio, or another human who even remotely follows the game, you will no doubt already know that the Tampa Rays have made the playoffs thanks to one of the league’s worst collapses in its storied history. Boston had a 9-game lead on September 3 only to have slowly and painfully abolished.

And then last night, after a huge eigth inning rally versus the Yanks, Evan Longoria went yard deep into extra innings. The playoffs welcome the Tampa Rays. Congrats to the them and condolences to our own, Grant, and Red Sox Nation. We thought it was the Red Sox year, but apparently not. But that’s what makes sports interesting. We’ve all been here before.

And then there is the Atlanta Braves. They were up on the Cardinals by 10.5 games late in August. After a late charge by St.Louis and horrendous ball by Atlanta, last night saw the collapse complete.

As I said, this is what makes sports interesting. We have all had this happen to us, and when see the bigger picture, this is good for baseball to have the Rays in the playoffs again. Believe it or not, Boston really doesn’t need the playoffs to be a successful franchise – Tampa does.
